Methanex eyeing $1 bln Vietnamese plant: report

Canadian methanol producer Methanex has shown interest in investing US$1 billion in a methanol plant in southern Vietnam, a local newspaper reported Monday. |

The Vietnam Investment Review weekly quoted the Ministry of Planning and Investment as saying Methanex had chosen the site for the plant in the southern oil and gas hub province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
The plant would have a capacity of up to 1.6 million tons of methanol per year, or about a quarter of its current total capacity, the report said. Methanex did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
